The way out of the avoidance loop is to start very small. Shrink the first step until it feels almost too easy: open the document, write one line, put your shoes by the door. The NHS suggests breaking large tasks into smaller parts, and a timer for a few minutes can help. You are not promising to finish. You are promising to begin for two minutes. Many people find that once they begin, continuing is easier than they expected. If you stop after two minutes, that still counts as a win, because you have shown yourself that starting is possible. Choose your task and shrink the first step.
