Quiz yourself, spread it out

A large 2013 review compared ten study methods. Practice testing, which means closing the book and trying to recall, and distributed practice, which means spreading a topic over several days, were rated the most useful. Rereading and highlighting were rated low. This does not mean they are useless, only that they are weaker on their own. So try swapping one round of rereading for one round of recall. It will feel harder, and that effort is part of how it helps. Then return to the same topic after a day or two instead of one long marathon. Short, regular sessions may also suit a busy working day.
